Module

Year One:

Core Modules

  • Introduction to Nursing Practice:
    This module familiarizes you with the values and duties of adult nursing according to the Nursing and Midwifery Council. Covering a broad spectrum of foundational areas, from professional accountability to reflective practice, it lays the groundwork for your studies in adult person-centered care.
  • Integrative Nursing Practice:
    Building upon your general healthcare knowledge, this module delves into adult nursing-specific learning. You’ll explore the biological, psychological, and social processes contributing to people’s health, gaining insights from experienced professionals within the sector. Understanding body systems enhances your comprehension of physiology and development, providing crucial context to the pivotal role nurses play in illness prevention.
  • Foundations of Applied Nursing Practice:
    Focused on developing your clinical nursing skills, this module emphasizes independent learning and confidence-building. Through practical sessions and workshops, you’ll learn to deliver fundamental nursing care while honing your communication skills. This equips you to establish effective therapeutic relationships with individuals.

Year Two:

Core Modules

  • Evidence in Nursing Practice:
    This module delves into research methods and evidence-based practice, highlighting the role of evidence alongside clinical expertise in ensuring quality nursing care and service development. It also addresses the cultivation of resilience, a valued attribute among nursing professionals.
  • Biopsychosocial Approaches in Nursing Practice:
    Exploring the biopsychosocial model, this module examines the origins and ramifications of physical and psychological ill-health. Through the study of anatomy, physiology, and body systems, as well as the effects of medications, you’ll gain insights into various psychological and social models. Additionally, you’ll assess the impact of ill-health on individuals, families, and communities.
  • Applied Nursing Practice in Complex Care:
    This module deepens your understanding of delivering care to individuals with complex needs and their families. You’ll develop clinical skills through classroom learning, simulation exercises, and real-world practice settings. By exploring interventions to enhance service users’ health, you’ll refine your ability to plan, deliver, and evaluate care for those with complex or long-term conditions.

Year Three:

Core Modules

  • Innovating and Improving Healthcare Practice:
    Focused on strategies for maintaining and enhancing quality in healthcare, this module explores change management within healthcare settings. You’ll also advance your knowledge of evidence-based nursing practice by undertaking an independent project to generate recommendations for healthcare practice education or research, contributing to new learning opportunities for peers and colleagues in adult nursing.
  • Leadership in Nursing:
    Examining the leadership role of registered adult nurses in healthcare and interprofessional team management, this module explores key leadership concepts. Drawing upon reflective skills acquired throughout the course, you’ll develop your unique leadership style, preparing for roles such as Practice Supervisor post-registration. Collaboration with experts across the healthcare sector enhances your learning experience.
    Leading and Managing Applied Nursing Care:
    This final module integrates practical experience gained on placements with theoretical and academic skills acquired in the classroom. By applying evidence-informed decision-making within multidisciplinary teams, you’ll be fully prepared for professional practice as a registered adult nurse. Additionally, you’ll develop applied knowledge in preparation for professional development towards prescribing post-qualification, ensuring readiness for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

 

Requirement

  • Standard offer: 112 UCAS Tariff points from up to four qualifications
  • Contextual offer: 104 UCAS Tariff points from up to four qualifications
  • GCSE English, Maths, and a Health or Science related subject at grade C / 4.
  • Evidence of professional knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors
  • Evidence of communication and interpersonal skills
  • Evidence of transferable skills and practice
  • Understanding of the role of a nurse specific to the route that you are applying for i.e. Adult or Mental Health, and current nursing issues
  • Insight into the professional, regulatory, and statutory aspects of nursing and current nurse training
  • Undertake an interview with a lecturer, clinical practitioner and service user
  • Provide a satisfactory health declaration
  • Complete an enhanced-level Disclosure and Barring Service check
